After teasing it via socials, Billy Strings has released a new single from his forthcoming album So Much for Goodbyes. He has indicated that the song “is dedicated to the folks back home. It’s a fictional story sing some non-fictional characters and places." The video for “Mill Town Flood” features art and ephemera that Strings has collected over the years. As the video description notes, “The vintage postcards and historical images featured in this video are drawn from the private collection of Billy Strings. Portions of this collection include materials generously shared with him by the Village of Muir, MI."
Strings produced So Much for Goodbyes with T Bone Burnett and it will come out on August 28 via Reprise Records. The album will be accompanied by original artwork created by Strings’ late mother, Debra Apostol. As Strings has noted, “I made this record to honor my mother,” Strings shares. “To notice and embrace this very significant period of grief in my life and make art from it. To turn my heartbreak into songs while using my guitar as a coping mechanism as I always have. It’s always been there for me to lean on through the hard times, and I figure it always will…until it’s my time to say goodbye.”
