Sierra Ferrell Drops First Single of 2026 Ahead of Outside Lands

9:40 AM EDT on August 7, 2026

Sierra Ferrell has released a new song, “Trying to Love You.” The surprise drop marks Ferrell’s first new single of 2026, and her first original solo track to be produced by Grammy-nominated, Nashville-based musician and songwriter Gabriel Kelley. Written by Ferrell, “Trying to Love You” has already popped up in the musician’s recent sets on her current Heavy Petal Tour.

According to a release, “‘Trying to Love You’ is the story of a homebound journey filled with fine lines, lingering questions and memories of someone slipping through her hands.” An ace back that includes Kelley (percussion, piano, wurlitzer, B-3, guitars), Matty Meyer (drums), Billy Contreras (fiddle), Pat Bergeson (harmonica) and Viktor Krauss (bass) are featured on the track while Kelley, Oliver Bates Craven, Geoff Saunders and Joshua Rilko provide background vocals.

Later today, the Charleston, WV-bred Ferrell will play her inaugural set at San Francisco’s Outside Lands. Looking slightly ahead, she also has a big return appearance at Morrison, CO’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre slated for August 12. The Brudi Brothers and Aurelia Anne Cohen will provide support duties.
