Last night, Tedeschi Trucks Band headlined San Diego, CA’s The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park. Lukas Nelson, who has been on the road with TTB for this stretch of their run, opened the night and emerged at the end of evening for a collaborative encore.

As he did on Thursday in Santa Barbara, CA, Nelson and members of his band returned to the stage to join Tedeschi Trucks Band for a tender reading of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s “Helpless” after the main TTB set. Nelson and his bandmates then remained in the mix as TTB closed out the show with Joe Cocker’s signature variation on The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends.” The cover continued a theme from Thursday, when the ensemble capped off the night with another track from Cocker’s Mad Dogs & Englishmen, Matthew Moore’s “Space Captain.” TTB famously celebrated the seminal Cocker project at LOCKN’ in 2015.

TTB will perform at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl this evening, with The Black Crowes and Whiskey Myers rounding out the bill. Meanwhile, Nelson will appear at Maryland Heights, MO’s Hollywood Casino Amphitheater tomorrow as part of the Outlaw Festival with Willie Nelson, Avett Brothers, Steven Wilson Jr. and others.
