Carl Stone: Himalaya

Created via sophisticated programming and, in the case of 17-minute standout “Kikanbou,” an Electron Octatrack sampler, Carl Stone’s music emerges from the same heady Everywheresville nexus as, say, Smithsonian-Folkways’ Music From the Outskirts of Jakarta. The aforementioned “Kidanbou,” a standout on his second album in under a year, Himalaya (Unseen Worlds), for example, sounds like a hypercaffeinated gene splice of the Contortions’ slide-guitar funk-punk and South African electro. Japanese guest vocalist Akaihirume brings soothing gravitas to the slow, sensuous title track. Enjoy the sound of tomorrow tonight.
