King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard to Drop ‘Alien Metal’ at Midnight

2:28 PM EDT on August 13, 2026

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will release their 28th album, Alien Metal, at midnight via their own (p)doom records. The surprise drop coincides with the Australian group’s second annual Field of Vision festival, which will take place in Buena Vista, CO this weekend. Though the members of King Gizzard made a surprise pop-up appearance in LA earlier this week, Field of Vision will be the proper kickoff to their first tour of 2026.

The eclectic group had previously announced that Alien Metal would arrive this summer, but the ensemble did not provide a specific timeframe until today. As reported last month, Alien Metal will lean into King Gizzard’s electronic music influences, much like 2023’s The Silver Cord, taking inspiration from their recent rave sets. It was crafted entirely on the band’s modular synthesizer rig, which they affectionately named Nathan, and all the tracks grew out of a single hour-long improvisation. The Melbourne based six-piece have already released three selections from the album, “Level 5,” “Alien Metal” and “Kill For The Steel.”

King Gizzard are slated to perform each night of Field of Vision, which runs from August 14-16. Blood Incantation, Angine de Poitrine, W.I.T.C.H., La Luz and several other acts will also appear while King Gizzard frontman Stu Mackenzie will deliver a solo set.
